Many people have lost their way in these uncertain times. It is more imperative than ever to find new and practical ways to give everyone hope and a faith-filled outlook to weather this storm.
Mother Teresa started her worldwide ministry with a mere 5 rupees and a desire to follow God's will. As bad as life may seem for some right now, the horrors of Mother Teresa's Calcutta, were many, many times worse. She was a beautiful and practical role model we have who never lost hope, no matter what.
Written by the founder of Mother Teresa's priestly community, I Thirst, A Guided Meditation with Mother Teresa will touch people in incredible ways. Taking 10 minutes to immerse oneself in the spirit and calling of Mother Teresa can help anyone let go and let God take over - no matter what their anxiety level.

The MPCC AIDS Ministry 2000-2011
The MPCC Ministry had it's start in the year 2000. After 12 years working with the Life Foundation (the AIDS Foundation of Hawaii) Pat Paakaula retired in 1998. Knowing that her work with AIDS wasn't done, Pat prayed for a way to help those dealing with this catastrophic disease. The answer to her prayer was "Get the church involved." In the year 2000 there was a lot in the media about AIDS in Africa. Pat knew this was a way we as Christians could reach out. The Parish Council and our pastor, Fr. Marc Alexander, agreed that this was something we could do. Since Sacred Heart Church had been part of Maryknoll for many years and since Maryknoll was involved with AIDS in Africa, Pat contacted the Maryknoll office in New York and was put in touch with the Maryknoll AIDS Task Force. She was referred to Sr. Marion Hughes who had a mission in Tanzania which supported both children infected with HIV and the many AIDS orphans. Sr. Marion sent pictures and stories of some of the children. These were shared with the parishoners in a presentation on HIV/AIDS and what we hoped to accomplish. Pictures and stories were also put in the Church Bulletin for 3 weeks before World AIDS Day (December 1) Maryknoll Grade School helped with a bake sale. The request for donations from our parishioners exceeded $4000. In February 2001 we welcomed another Maryknoll outreach also in Tanzania headed by Sr Veronica Schwyen (Sr Veronica was moved to another project on the Mainland in 2010)We soon recognized that AIDs was affecting not only Africa but our own community as well. Our own neighbors also needed our help. We were no longer just a World AIDS Day Committee-we became an AIDS Ministry. Following are some of our events.

World Aids Day--Tanzania World AIDS Day (December 1) is always dedicated to our adopted children in Tanzania. Donations from parishioners help provide things like food, clothing, medical care and especially schooling. Events that have helped with fundraising: 1) Photographic updates of Sr. Marion's children shown at Mass 2) In 2003 a dinner program featuring Sr. Marion who was visiting us from Tanzania 3) Production of a 2004 calendar with pictures and drawings from Sr. Marion and Sr. Veronica 4) Buttons showing the faces of some of the children were sold. 5) AIDS Memorial Quilts were displayed at Sacred Heart and St Pius X Churches 6) Maryknoll Grade School helped with bake sales. In 2005 and 2006 the AIDS Ministry participated in a community World AIDS Day event held in down town Honolulu sharing information about our ministry.

Life Foundation-Comprehensive AIDS Service Organization
Annual AIDS Walk--Since 2006 the AIDS Ministry has participated in the Life Foundation AIDS Walk at Kapiolani Park. As well as walking we have set up an information table to acquaint the community with our Ministry .This has always drawn a lot of attention

The Gregory House Programs--Helps meet the housing needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS
1) In 2003 the Ministry sponsored a 4 week collection of toiletries and other household goods for residents. 2) Fund raisers included a country style bake sale and the sale of flower pens. 3) In 2007 and 2008, with the help of the Legion of Mary, luncheons were provided for residents of the Waipahu residence. 4) In 2009, with the help of the Legion of Mary and the Outreach Ministry, an annual tradition was established with a 4th of July barbecue For Gregory House residents. This has proved to be a very popular event. 5) In 2011 a barbecue was also provided on Labor Day.

Save The Foodbasket--Provides food and nutrition services for Oahu's HIV/AIDS Community
1) Greeting cards were sold at several events as a fund raiser 2) In 2010, with the help of the Outreach Ministry, a sizable monetary donation was given to the Foodbasket.

Other events
1) In 2005 The Awareness Project was launched to help other Parishes learn more about HIV/AIDS. A documentary,” A Closer Walk" was shown at several parishes. 2) 2007-- In collaboration with the Diocesan Office of Social Ministry we hosted a presentation,"A Christian Response to AIDS in Hawaii at St. Theresa's Church

We would like to invite others to join us, either as part of the planning or just to be available to help with our various events
